

Myanma Airways, the state owned National carrier, was formed in the year 1948, under the name of "Union of Burma Airways"(UBA).
The Domestic schedule flights were commenced in 1948, with 9 seater (6) De Havilland Dove aircrafts and was initially flying to (19) stations. The external schedule flights were operated to Bangkok , Calcutta and Chittagong in the year 1950.
The airline was reformed as a board under the Union of Burma Airways Act of 1952, according to international schedule flights extension programme. The flights were operated to Singapore , Katmandu and later to Bangkok , Calcutta , Dhaka, Hong Kong and Jakarta until August 15 1993.
In the year 1972, the airline was again reorganized as Burma Airways Corporation (BAC).
In the year 1989, it was renamed Myanma Airways (MA) with the new image logo. The three pillars of Myanma Airways are Safety, Service and Image. Currently, the daily domestic schedule flights are operating to (21) destinations.
Currently Myanma Airways operate domestic flights only.


Myanma Airways of the Ministry of Transport and Region Air formed a joint venture Airline called "Myanmar Airways International"(MAI). The Myanma Airways International started the international flights to Bangkok , Singapore and Hong Kong , on August 15 1993 with the Boeing 757-210ER aircraft and from August 13 1994 onwards the international flights were operated with Boeing 737-400.
With the arrival of another Boeing 737-400 aircraft on December 9 1995 Myanmar Airways International operates more international flights, such as flights to Kualalumpur, Dhaka and Kunming , in addition to Bangkok , Singapore and Hong Kong . Moreover, Myanma Airways International plans to operate more international flights.
Similarly, Myanma Airways, Air Mandalay Holding Limited of Singapore and Premier Airlines Pte Limited of Malaysia formed a joint venture, called "Air Mandalay" Limited and started domestic flights from Yangon to Mandalay, Nyaung-U, Heho with the ATR72-210 aircraft with effect from November 1 1994. With the arrival of another ATR72-210 aircraft, Air Mandalay increased the domestic charter flights. Moreover, Air Mandalay operates chartered flights to Chiang Mai. Air Mandalay also plans to operate to Chiang Rai and Phuket in the near future.
